Chandigarh School Principal Dies by Suicide Using Father’s Licensed Gun

A private school principal in Chandigarh’s Sector 33 tragically died by suicide after shooting himself with his father’s licensed double-barrel gun, police confirmed on Wednesday.

Authorities report that the principal locked himself inside a room at his residence earlier on Tuesday. Upon hearing a gunshot, family members forced open the door and rushed him to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). He was declared dead upon arrival at around 10:30 am. No suicide note was recovered, and the senior police officer said the motive remains unclear. Initial findings suggest the principal had been experiencing depression for some time.

The firearm, legally registered in his father’s name, was used in the incident. Investigators have taken the body into custody and scheduled a post-mortem examination for Wednesday at the Sector 16 hospital’s mortuary. 

DSP Udaypal and Crime Branch Officer Satwinder Singh led a forensic team to the scene, which gathered vital evidence related to the firearm and surrounding circumstances. “We are probing all possible angles to ascertain the reason for the suicide. So far, no clear motive has emerged,” the DSP stated.

The principal lived with his wife and daughter. Police have indicated that depression may have been a contributing factor. Further investigation will focus on reviewing digital correspondence, medical history, and conversations with family or colleagues.
