Andy Byron, CEO of data-operations firm Astronomer, has resigned following a viral kiss-cam incident at a Coldplay concert that drew national attention and prompted an internal company investigation. The video, which showed Byron and the company’s HR chief Kristin Cabot embracing on the jumbotron, led to immediate questions over workplace conduct and professionalism.

The incident took place on July 17 at Gillette Stadium in Boston during a Coldplay performance. As the couple appeared on the venue’s kiss-cam, their interaction, broadcast live to tens of thousands of concertgoers, went viral on social media, sparking widespread speculation about their relationship. According to multiple reports, both Byron and Cabot are married to other people.

Astronomer responded swiftly. Within 24 hours of the video’s spread, the company placed both Byron and Cabot on administrative leave pending an internal investigation. On July 19, Byron tendered his resignation, which the board accepted.

“Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding,” the company said in an official statement. “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”

Kristin Cabot has not yet publicly commented, and her current employment status remains under review.

Astronomer co-founder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy has been appointed interim CEO while the company begins the search for a permanent replacement. DeJoy is expected to maintain company operations and reassure investors as the leadership transition unfolds.

Byron, who took over as CEO in 2023, helped steer Astronomer through a significant expansion phase, including the opening of international offices and a $93 million Series D funding round. The company, which specializes in data-pipeline management for artificial intelligence applications, was recently valued at approximately $1 billion.

The scandal has brought renewed scrutiny to executive behavior in the tech sector, where public perception and corporate accountability are under increasing pressure.

Astronomer’s board has reiterated its commitment to transparency as it continues its investigation. “We take these matters seriously and will take the necessary steps to uphold the integrity of our workplace,” the company stated.

Further updates on the internal review and executive appointments are expected in the coming weeks.
