Hinjewadi Residents Call for Stricter Construction Transport Rules Amid Road Safety Concerns

Residents of Hinjewadi have raised serious concerns over unsafe and dirty roads caused by construction activities, prompting authorities to initiate a cleanup operation and consider stricter regulations for transport at construction sites.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) recently stepped in to address mounting complaints about muddy roads and debris near Megapolis Township. As part of the intervention, two builders were instructed to clean affected road stretches. Construction vehicles are now being required to wash their wheels and cover their loads before exiting sites.

While the cleanup provided temporary relief, local residents and commuters, including many IT professionals, stressed the need for permanent and enforceable rules. They highlighted that the muddy and slippery roads pose a significant risk, especially to two-wheeler riders, and that the issue is compounded by dust and noise pollution from ongoing construction.

The concern has extended beyond Hinjewadi, with citizens in other parts of Pune, such as Baner, Kothrud, and Paud Road also demanding stricter enforcement. They are urging civic bodies like the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to take proactive steps in ensuring cleaner and safer roads around construction zones.

Residents believe the recent efforts should not remain isolated actions but become part of a consistent and citywide strategy to improve road safety and uphold basic hygiene standards around construction areas.
