IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Gurgaon and Southern Haryana

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather alert for southern Haryana, including Gurgaon, warning of the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall on Tuesday, August 6. The advisory comes after the city recorded a maximum temperature of 31.8 °C on Monday, August 5, accompanied by humid conditions.

According to IMD officials, the rainfall is expected to be concentrated in select areas of southern Haryana, with the potential for short but intense spells. Such conditions may result in temporary waterlogging, particularly in low‑lying localities and areas with inadequate drainage infrastructure. Commuters and residents have been advised to remain alert and plan travel accordingly.

The IMD classifies a yellow alert as an early‑stage weather warning, issued to keep the public and local authorities informed about changing weather patterns that could impact daily activities. While not as severe as orange or red alerts, yellow alerts signal the need for precautionary measures, especially in regions vulnerable to flooding or traffic disruptions during heavy rain.

Local authorities in Gurgaon have said that preparedness measures are in place to address possible waterlogging and related issues. Teams from the municipal corporation are on standby to respond to emergency calls, clear blocked drains, and manage traffic in case of congestion caused by rain.

In neighbouring Delhi, the IMD has forecast mostly humid conditions for August 6, with only minimal rainfall expected in isolated parts of the city. The national capital has seen limited monsoon activity in recent days, contributing to persistent humidity levels and discomfort for residents.

Weather experts have noted that August is traditionally a period of varied monsoon activity in the region, with some days experiencing heavy rainfall and others remaining largely dry. The combination of high humidity and intermittent rain can often cause health concerns, such as heat stress or increased mosquito breeding in stagnant water. Residents are being encouraged to take precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding unnecessary exposure to heat, and ensuring that water does not accumulate in and around homes.

The IMD’s latest forecast for Haryana also indicates that, beyond the immediate rainfall alert, temperatures are likely to remain in the moderate range over the coming days. However, the department cautioned that any localized heavy downpour could temporarily disrupt normal routines in affected districts.

Gurgaon’s municipal officials have urged citizens to report waterlogging incidents promptly so that response teams can act quickly. They also emphasized the importance of avoiding areas known to flood during previous monsoon seasons, particularly underpasses and low‑lying roads.

With the yellow alert in effect for August 6, residents across Gurgaon and southern Haryana are advised to monitor weather updates, follow municipal advisories, and exercise caution while traveling or engaging in outdoor activities.

The IMD will continue to monitor the system and issue updates if weather conditions intensify, ensuring that the public remains informed and prepared for any potential disruptions caused by the monsoon rains.
